Creating Advantages with a non shooter in your offense
- Utilize them as a screener looking for short rolls, creating out of that short roll advantage
- Putting them on the perimeter as a passer
- Specialized offenses for non shooter with non shooting big (dunker side ball screens)
How has your philosophy changed with a post player as your best player
- Actions/reads off of low post catch dictated by the defense
- Delay/5 out actions with big working middle with split cuts off the ball
- Stick to your identity if D is doubling post rather than just attacking it & immediately playing off that advantage
Screening
- Read the defense into a screen: Look for slips by reading the defense over your shoulder
- Vs Drop hold screen longer let screener attack big off drop
Warmups/Practice
- Build offense and shooting drills within the warmup
- Due to little time to practice D immediately has something to go against
Studying Film for New Actions/Playbook Building
- Find creators that you like: Ryan Pennone & Brad Stevens
- If you find something that you think a guy fits in well, write it down and talk about it with your staff
- 3–4 base actions: 2 or 3 calls off of each action, 2–3 quick hitters that do not follow base
Overrated or Underrated
- Traditional 45 Side Pick & Roll: Overrated because defenses are so good now
- Changing D After Time out: Underrated if the other team is taking a timeout and they are struggling can be very effective
- Jumpstop: Depends on the level, lower levels jumpstomp, high level players not as necessary, overall underrated
- Flare Screen: Underrated, extremely difficult to defend, especially if you play a team that has not scouted you.
- Hedge Defense: Properly rated.
- Pregame Speeches: Underrated, balance both tactical and motivational
